Held on 05-06 May 2026, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) training in Stockholm, Sweden, was a unique capacity building opportunity for 35 committed urban transport specialists.
The event included a total of 9 training modules (3 core and 6 electives) on SUMP-related topics that provided a detailed overview of the challenges and best practices in establishing SUMPs.
The training began with introductions by Mr Henrik Zetterquist (Trafikverket) and Mr Mark Finer followed by a tour de table. The training was provided by Kristina Gaučė, Tom Rye and Mark Finer.
During the first morning trainees enjoyed training on the basics of SUMP methodology and practice; demand management, followed in the afternoon by: urban nodes and the interface between local and strategic transport; climate change adaptation and resilience; and then a discuusion on multi-modal plan scenario building in SUMPs.
The second day covered sessions on the link between strategic plans, programming, pipeline and project preparation, spatial planning and indicators, targets and monitoring. The afternoon offered a detailed review of freight and logistics before the final wrap-up and conclusions.
