Held on 07-08 of May 2025, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) training in Dublin, Ireland, was a unique capacity building opportunity for 37 committed urban transport specialists.

The event included a total of 19 training modules (3 core and 16 electives) on SUMP-related topics that provided a detailed overview of the challenges and best practices in establishing SUMPs.

The training began with introductions by the Mr Eoin Farrell, Senior Land Use & Transport Planner at National Transport Authority, along with a representative from JASPERS, part of the EIB advisory services, Mr Fergal Trace, followed by a tour de table. The training was provided by Mark Finer, Tom Rye and Kristina Gaučė.

During the first day trainees enjoyed training on the basics of SUMP methodology and practice as well as indicators, targets and monitoring, explored the link between strategic plans and project preparation, and discussed the interface between local and strategic transport. The day finished with discussions on multi-modal scenario building in SUMPs.

The second day covered sessions on freight and logistics, demand and accessibility through SUMP and spatial planning. The afternoon offered a detailed review of inclusive and accessible mobility, before the final wrap-up and remarks.
