The third training session on environmental requirements for cohesion policy projects in the 2014-2020 programming period was held in Brussels on 31 January 2018.
Target audience
The target group of the training were representatives from managing authorities and line ministries and beneficiaries that currently are or will be responsible for the preparation of projects in the period 2014-2020. The training was also addressed to authorities in Member States responsible for the permitting of new infrastructure projects.
Objectives
The training was the third of a series of events that aimed at addressing in detail environmental requirements for projects in the period 2014-2020.
The aim of this particular session was to take stock of lessons learnt in the years 2015-2017 and focus on topics such as requirements of the amended EIA Directive and transitional provisions for projects, assessing project compliance with the Water Framework Directive - taking into consideration recent CIS guidance No. 36 concerning exemptions to the Environmental Objectives according to Article 4(7) - and the Habitats Directive.
The training was organised in close cooperation with DG REGIO and DG ENVIRONMENT.

Practical application of the European Commission's technical guidance on climate proofing to water, wastewater and flood protection projects
EIB Advisory through its JASPERS mandate, in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Finance (Directorate General for European Funds), organized a webinar on the practical application of the European Commission's Technical Guidance on Climate Proofing in water, wastewater and flood protection projects over €10 million for beneficiaries of EU funds in Spain on November 11, 2025. Climate proofing seeks to ensure that infrastructure is resilient to the potential impacts of climate change while ensuring that GHG emissions from projects are consistent with the EU and Spanish decarbonization objectives. This webinar provided an overview of the EC climate proofing methodology, its implementation in s projects in Spain, providing practical insights and examples.
